Point Cook U13 SC1 League Champions 2011
Point Cook soccer club continues to flourish. For the first time in the clubs short history, a team has finished on top of their group ladder to become league champions and progress through to the finals. The progression and maturity of the team has been remarkable. Even with two games to play out, with our boys sitting two points adrift in second place behind Spring Hills, they never lost sight of what was ahead of them. The simply equation was, win the last two games and hope that Spring Hills slip up with either a draw or a loss. Knowing that the Title was in our midst, it wasn't hard to motivate the boys going into the last game against our local rivals, Altona City, whom we previously played and could only muster two frustrating draws. So the pressure was on! Come kick off time, on the morning of the most important game these boys would play, they were switched on and ready to go. Coach Dan Nowinski's every direction was followed to a tee. Their determination and hunger for the win rattled their opponents and they dominated every moment of the game. By 11.25am the score line read, Point Cook 3 - Altona City 0. But the boys were not happy with just 3, they just wanted more and sure enough the final result was Point Cook 7- Altona City 0.
We had done our part, there was nothing more we could do except wait for Spring Hills to kick off their game an hour later, and their result would determine our fate. We waited frantically for a phone call giving us the news from Spring Hills. As the phone rang everyone's eyes were glued, ?Dan put the phone on loud speaker so that everyone can hear!" "Spring Hills 1- Sunshine George Cross 2!" Needless to say the rest is history, as everyone went up in unison screaming and yelling. It was a moment that anyone involved will never forget.
The boys went through to the finals and fought hard, only to be defeated by the eventual winner FC Bulleen Lions, after extra time and losing 9-10 on penalties.
