Point Cook Road Reserve - Sporting Precinct
Point Cook will soon be home to a major sporting precinct, with Wyndham City allocating $4.8 million to the design and construction of the Point Cook Road Reserve as part of the 2010/2011 Budget.
The major development will initially see football, soccer, cricket, tennis, and eventually netball, played on the Point Cook Road Reserve, located at the eastern end of Point Cook Road, between Sneydes Road and Point Cook Homestead Road.
As stated in the Budget, $4.2 million has been allocated to the detailed design and construction of the reserves infrastructure, including sporting fields and courts. A further $600,000 has been allocated to the design of three sports pavilions.
The area comprises an expansive 22 hectares of land which will accommodate the multiple sporting fields, courts, and open recreation space. The district level facility will provide a range of formal recreation spaces including:
- Three AFL football and cricket ovals, including a senior synthetic oval;
- Eight tennis courts, with the provision for future expansion;
- Three soccer fields;
- Provision for up to 12 outdoor netball courts;
- Passive recreational facilities such as shared trails including work out stations, shelters and bbq amenities; and
- Associated facilities such as pavilions and car parking.
The detailed design of the ovals, civil works and landscaping has been awarded to CPG Australia Pty Ltd and is currently underway. Construction of the Point Cook Reserve will commence in late 2010. Construction of the three pavilions is set to commence in June 2011.
